The Suunto Zoop Novo dive computer is probably the one you've seen on the wrists of other divers the most, likely the yellow model. It's cheap, very easy to use, highly shock-resistant, lightweight (about 120 g), perfect for night dives with its brightly lit blue screen, and suitable for air and nitrox. What more could you ask for in a first dive computer?
Another interesting aspect for divers who are learning is that it uses the RGBM algorithm, quite conservative and indicating deep stops. This can be cumbersome on diving trips with 3-4 dives a day, but it's certainly safer for those getting acquainted with diving.

If there were one downside, it's that the buttons are somewhat small, and if you're wearing gloves, they might not respond as you'd like, and it's not easy to change the battery yourself.

Another highly recommended dive computer for novice divers due to its price (you can find online deals for less than €180). It's super easy to use with just one button to navigate the entire menu, and it also has the conservative RGBM algorithm that will indicate deep stops. It has a dive history of up to 75 dives, nitrox and air modes, a depth gauge, and you can connect it to your PC or Mac to save your dives and view profiles. It's a very reliable computer, the most stylish in my opinion, with a watch-like appearance (although it's not small), and it stands out from the rest of the computers in this article because it allows you to play with two decompression modes by choosing between two algorithms, making it more or less conservative.
The Oceanic Geo 2 is comfortable, with easy-to-read data, and you can easily change the battery yourself, three important points when you're looking to buy your first dive computer. On the downside, the menu is complicated (it took me forever to switch from °F to °C), the light can be a bit dim for night dives, and you need to buy a cable (not cheap) to connect it to other equipment.
